السلام عليكم

Why is it that some verbs need to take the peropsition لِ or إلى ? For example in the verb وَصَلَ needs to be followed by إلى , while others can either take direct objects or some which do not need an object at all!

I've noticed in the notes that the verb يَسْجُدُ also needs to be followed by a preposition.

Why is this? Please help...

جزاكم الله خيراً

وعليكم السلام

Think of the English language. If we were to use the verb "he went", then we would automatically use the preposition "to" after it. ie "He went to the mosque" as opposed to "He went the mosque".

However, there are other verbs in the English language that do not require any prepositions. For example, let us look at the verb, "he bought". So in this instance there is no need for any additional prepositions. Thus, "he bought a top" is correct.

In the same manner, there are some verbs in Arabic that require prepositions and some that do not. These need to memorised when encountered.

I hope that attends to your query.
