السلام عليكم
قُلْ - Say!
أَعُوذُ - 'I seek refuge*
بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ - with the lord of Mankind
مَلِكِ - the King/Master
النَّاس - of Mankind
إِلَـٰهِ - the God/Diety
النَّاسِ - of Mankind
مِن شَرِّ - from the wickedness
الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ - of the devil whispers*
الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ - that which whispers
فِي - in
صُدُورِ النَّاسِ - the breasts (hearts) of Mankind
مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ - from (among) the Jinn
وَالنَّاسِ - and Mankind.
Translation: Say! 'I seek refuge with the Lord of Mankind, King of Mankind, God of Mankind - from the wickedness of the devil whispers that which whispers in the breasts of Mankind, from among the Jinn and Mankind.'
* عَاذَ = he sought protection
* الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ = This part confused me, because I wanted to translate it 'the whispers of the epithet of the devil (literally the one who runs at the mention of Allah's name - according to Hans Wehr). However, according to what we have learnt, I realised that this cannot be an إضافة (possessive) construction as الْوَسْوَاسِ has the definite article الْ infront of it, whereas in a possessive construction, definition falls on the final possessor. Then again, الْخَنَّاسِ seems to be a noun, i.e. the one who runs, then how can it be in an adjectival phrase? So, in the end - I chose 'Devil whispers' as my translation.
Can anyone help...?
مع السلامة
