What is the difference between مشرق and شرق

In lesson 5 why were we asked to translate east as مشرقwhen would we use this spelling شرق

i think this is because مشرق is إسم مكان which translates مشرق as: 'place of west'

whereas شرق just translates to 'west'

Please note that شرق means "east" and not "west" as mentioned.

شرق would mean East in general whereas, مشرق means, "place of rising". One can understand that the sun rises in the east and thus the difference in meaning.

Finally, note it is اسم without ء.
