How do you analyse same subject for two verbal sentence?

Regarding the grammar breakdown in the sentence 'the merchant entered the classroom and wrote a sentence in the book', there are two verbal sentences. In the 2nd verbal sentence would one say that the subject is the merchant (and omitted?)-Homework lesson 3, Section 2, Question 2.

even though it's the second 'part' of the sentence it is still the merchant (subject) doing the action) so you won't need to mention the subject for another time.
