Assalamualaikum,

I have attempted to answer to your query, although I wasn't entirely sure about the 'writers' part of the question. Also I was uncertain about the exact grammatical breakdown of past tense verbs.

I hope it helps inshaallah. Maybe you could post your attempt at the question.

Khadijah asked the writers of the school a question. They did not listen (m3+) to her.

Negation

سَمِعُـوْا = فعل ماض مبني

لِهَا = Preposition and Attached Pronoun

JazakAllah Khair

PS apologies for any errors in the above attempt...

السلام عليكم

Please forgive me Ambia, I've just added a few little things إن شاء الله:

a) خَـدِيْـجَـةُ - It is a pure Arabic female name, thus, - a diptote.
b) سُؤَالاً - Just missed out the ا in the spelling.
c) لِ - becomes لَ when attached to a possesive pronoun, (the exception is لِي )

In full:
سَأَلَـتْ خَـدِيْـجَـةُ كَاتِبَيْنِ المَدْرَسَةِ سُؤَالاً. مَا سَمِعُـوْا لَهاَ

مع السلامة

Great answers from the students that replied.

However, please find some important additional points.

Everyone has accepted that كَاتِبَيْنِ is the genetive form for "writers" but have failed to note this is only for the dual. The genetive form for "writers" (remember this is 3+) is كَاتِبِينَ.

However, this is outside the scope of Level I (though Abdul Baasith should know how to deal with sound plurals when they are themselves posessed) and so please use the broken form for "writers" which is كُـتَّابٌ in this sentence.

Finally, please note that the verb سَمِعَ does not come with the prepostion لِ (unlike قَالَ which needs the prepoition لِ) and therefore there is no need to add this.

Could students please update their answers (do not change your original post but post again) with the final solution so I may verify its correctness.

جزاك الله خيراً

I've corrected the translation to the best of my ability:

سَأَلَـتْ خَـدِيْـجَـةُ كُتَّابَ المَدْرَسَةِ سُؤَالاً. مَا سَمِعُـوْاهاَ

Just a quick question Ustaadh; when joining the attached pronoun to the verb سَمِعُـوْا should the ا be dropped at all?

مع السلامة

The ا should be dropped when there is an attached pronoun following it. Thus, it should read سمعوها.

Also note that a "particle of negation" in Arabic is called حرفُ النفيِ.

Well done to all those that attempted to help.
