Which breakdown do we use when an object is an اسم and مفعول بە

In the last homework (lesson 5) regarding the sentence 'the two boys sat on the two chairs' would the two chairs be the object (مفعول بە ) or the noun after the preposition (اسم)?

Remember the object is the 'done to,' and the subject the thing carrying out the action.

So if 'sat' is the verb then the subject will be the one who's doing that verb.

I'm sure you will be able to answer the question yourself now.

Jazakillah Khayran. Alhamdulillah I think I understand it now. Also to add to your response, ustaad mentioned that (اسم) takes precedence in the grammar breakdown beacause of the preposition. So although it is the object (مفعول بە), one would write 'ismun majroorun bil kasrati'.

Also there's two types of verbs:
1/Transitive verbs-where it has to take an object (i.e. he bought the pen)
2/Intransitive verbs-verbs that needs a preposition in the sentence to make sense.

So in all intransitive verbs the(اسم) takes precedence in the grammar breakdown ('ismun majroorun bil kasrati')

As you say quite rightly, there are some verbs which are Intransitive. These verbs do not take a direct Object (مفعول بە).

In Arabic, 'The two boys sat' is enough to make a coherent sentence. However, to give the action the dimension of a time or place, a preposition has to be added.

For this reason the two chairs are not the direct objects as you cannot 'do' a chair, but rather you can sit ON one. This causes على الكرسيين to be formed by حرف جر + اسم

and the chairs to become اسما مجرور (prepositional complements) - so the preposition has taken precedence.
