بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
قُلْ أَعُوذُ - Say! 'I seek refuge/protection
بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ - with the Lord of the dawn
مِن شَرِّ - from the evil
مَا خَلَقَ - of what he created
وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ - and from the evil of (one who works in the dark)*
إِذَا وَقَبَ - whenever it darkened
وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ - and from the evil of the sorceress (women who spit) SFP
فِي الْعُقَدِ - in the knots
وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ - and from the evil of (one who envies)
إِذَا حَسَدَ - whenever he envied'
Translation: Say! 'I seek refuge with the Lord of the Dawn, from the evil of what he created, and from the evil of the one who works in the dark, whenever it darkened, and from the evil of the sorceress who spit in the knots, and from the evil of the one who envies whenever he envied.'
*غَاسِقٍ is the فَاعِلٌ 'doer' (subject) form of the noun غَسَقٌ = nightfall, dusk , so I have therefore translated it as 'the one who works in the dark' as I can't really say 'Darker'! Also, the night is used as metaphor for evil, as what has been done wrong is literally hidden.
*وَقَبَ = it darkened/became gloomy
*نَفَثَ = he spat, نَفَّاثَةٌ = she who spits (this was a type of witchcraft, in which women would spit into knots while nitting, in order to curse someone)
* عقَدَةٌ = knot, plural = عُقَدٌ
*حَسَدَ = he envied, so حاسدٌ = 'doer' (subject) form of the verb.
