Asalamu alaikum

on page four in lesson 5 I am not clear as to why the word apple is used in the feminine form التفاحة in the sentence 'The child ate the apple in the house of Yaasir' is this because the word for 'apple' is feminine by nature or the word 'child' is feminine.

Shukran

وعليكم السلام

The reason why the word apple "appears" to be feminine is not yet learnt. It is not actually feminine as such and this will be left for later levels.

However, please note that the word child (masculine) has no effect on other words in terms of gender.
